Rick was first introduced to greenhouse growing through his church community and has been growing for 26 years since. He enjoys the challenge of being his own boss and is passionate about doing business in the produce industry. “The industry is growing fast and if you’re willing to diversify and never settle, there’s a great future”, Rick says, “We’re going to have some fun over the next ten years.”
Rick is not only growing produce but a stable business that he can pass down to his four sons. “Growing provides the platform for me to create opportunity for them.” For Rick, the secret to growing the best produce is investing in people. “New technology provides us the tools to spread our talents buts it’s great staff that are at the root of the best possible product.”
Rick’s operation is rapidly expanding and diverse, growing tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, lettuce and eggplant and he doesn’t see it stopping there. Rick is a proud member of the RedHat Co-operative, and enjoys the extra time that it gives him to grow, with the peace of mind that his produce is going to the customer in the freshest possible way.
